Lengthy and Technical Review of Rupert Neve Designs MBP.
Be interested in reading your observations.
We liked it so much, we bought two.
Seeing daily use here, in both rooms.

Sounds good. I think I'll get one.DC

Now *that's* the kind of review I can relate to.

Despite the blue LED's?

It does.
And maybe as an OCL-2 person you're going to like the blue led's (should you choose to use that function). I do.
Cheers,
Eric
I've been very pleased with my ELMA-switchmodified Portico EQ and comp units so I'm happy for you.
Is this Hutch's first VCA compressor?
I was going to ask what kind of a VCA it uses?
He may have had a hand in the RND-P2 channel strip units as well.
JT
Hi,
Does it use a That's VCA, or something of their own design?

Oh, Nuts, sorry, Jaakko already asked this!

Does this mean you'll shitcan the OCL-2?

No, in addition to. They are pretty different beasts.

The one I had was a engineering prototype, and while I did look inside (where you can see a THAT VCA) I didn't take it apart. Istr Josh saying that they uses their own VCA as well, though.

I'm finding that true as well, the RND-P2-MBP is the "perfect" complement to the Manley Vari Mu.
They work really well in tandem, to share compression tasks.
At first, I was tempted to dismiss the whistles and bells on the MBP as marketing Bling,
but have found a touch of Blend, Silk, and SFE very enjoyable, and easy to dial in.
Hats off to Hutch and Mr. Neve!

Me too Jerry - to be honest I was a tad sceptical/ scared of those things. I heard today that the MBP setting for Silk which is equal to the fixed position for the other Portico units is 12 o'clock: I have never been anywhere near that, especially with the Blue. A little goes a long way in mastering ... On the other hand, a little can also be used on pretty exposed material: I mastered two cross-over classical albums this week: strings and solo piano - the non-compressor bits of the MBP are in places on both.
Cheers,
Eric
Tristan reminded us to setup the parameters of Silk texture, EQUAL for Both channels, before engaging the Link button. Otherwise it'll be cattywhompus on further adjustments in Linked operation.
Somehow this escaped the users guide.
Probably has something to do with the Silk circuit being last in the chain, at the output transformers.

Robin mentioned this on GS yesterday as well, but it is in the users guide - just not where you'd expect to find it! The legend on the illustration of the MBP's controls mentions this requirement.
I am going to try very hard to use `cattywhompus' in a conversation very soon.
Cheers,
Eric
