Hi all,

I may have uncovered a bug in DDP Creator tonight.  I'm on version 3.0.1.1 on OSX 10.8.5 and I've done many hundreds of masters without a single issue.

It appears that WAVs exported from a DDP do not null with the source files and the residual, though 90dB down is not dither or anything benign.  I've never really used that feature but tonight I had reason to and was running a bunch of detailed tests for a project.

If you feel like testing on your end -
1) Drop a WAV file into a new DDP Creator .dpf file
2) Export a DDP Master and close the app
3) Reopen and import the DDP master you just created
4) Use the "Export File(s)" option to export the WAV(s)
5) Perform a null test against the original WAVs used to create the DDP

Naturally this caused me to doubt the actual audio in the DDP but I renamed the IMAGE.DAT file, opened in Wavelab and resaved as a WAV.  This nulls perfectly with the source file.

Anyone else seeing this behavior?  As I say I almost never use this feature but perhaps some of you do?

Cheers.
Ruairi

Updating is the very last thing I want to do! The version I have is super stable, and I don't use the WAV export anyhow. Really I was just flagging the issue for those who may use it regularly.

Yep and even if you had a problem, Pieter usually responds pretty quickly. I've had some questions for him in the past and he always got back to me within the day.

I've never had an issue with updating his software. I wouldn't worry about updating this at all Ruairi.

Hi Ruairi, I can confirm this bug, I brought it to Pieter's attention way back in early 2013.  He said it would be fixed in future updates, but I never used the feature again or tested the updated version(s) to confirm it had been fixed.

DDPs always nulled with the source, it was only WAV export that had the issue.

Thanks J, good to know. I've repeated it on two rigs here, both of us running older versions. I do plan to buy a new MBP later this year so I'll investigate the newer version then.

Since many of us need a separate folder of 44.1k16bit WAVs as part of the deliverables, this would seem to be a significant issue.  I don't currently use DDP Creator, but I do use his DDP Player - I'll have to check it for bit-correctness.  Anyone else?

It is a serious issue for sure Rich. My workflow is to create 4416 WAVs in Pro Tools and drop them into DDP Creator so I rarely if ever use the export function. But I know other who do.

And one that Pieter corrected years ago!  Update your software.

Did I break some secret code in highlighting this bug? Sure, Pieter is a nice guy but there are still people out there using this version. Now they have information that may be useful.

I have zero interest in updating my software and I'm sure I'm not the only one. Once I have a stable system I almost never upgrade anything and live in that bubble for 5 years or so, when I build a new system I take the time to research and test for stability and then ease it into use alongside the known working system.

I just can't think of a single practical reason not to upgrade to the latest version, which fixed that issue. I've been a user of Sonoris DDP Creator OEM since 2012. Certainly no clashes with Mac OS or hardware or software that I'm aware of.

Yep, not to update because of stability issues does not apply here.  Same with DMG software or UA's. Never an issue.

Now operating systems are another story.  I still run snow leopard and PT's 9 but all my plugs or 3rd party softwares the latest and greatest.

i understand your concerns but I think they are unfounded in this case.

Best of luck. Be well.
