A friend sent this....

My friend's notes:

You won't believe how much misinformation and errors you can pack into a 3 minute video.

- DAW stands for "Digital Analogue Workplace"
- GUI stands for "General User Interface"
- How about: "Most computers these days are digital"
- He refers to Electric guitars as a "non-analogue sound"
- He talks about "Vinyl Record" and shows an image of a film reel
- He talks about electric bass and show an image of an upright bass
- He shows a triangle waveform and square waveform and plays a tone with them.
He says "Don't worry if you don't hear the difference yet".
The problem is, both sounds he plays are identical "sine waves"!

But wait.. there's more:

Reverb..!

I didn't know, for example that Wallace Clement Sabine *invented* reverb, nor did I know that there were TWO kinds of reverb" "wet" and "dry"

"...also known as instruments..."

This can't be serious, it's just too stupid. Have we as a species sunk this far?

But I couldn't keep listening, because I HATE the use of "DAW" as a word rhyming with "paw." It's an acronym, not a word... "D. A. W."  (Which really stands for "Doing it All Wrong.")

Which he did...at least he got that part right!

I didn't watch past the first one, but I'm pretty sure they are parody. There is a culture of parody on YT. Some are actually funny. This guy just isn't funny nor real enough to make you wonder. So it just looks stupid.

If he is 'for reelz' he certainly should win the Guinness Book for stupidest person on the Internet. I think he just sucks at parody.

I agree on the "daw" comment...

There is something about it that makes me queasy, and I'm not a squeamish guy. Something I learned about myself today, haha.

I agree on the DAW deal, it does sound strange. Out of curiosity... how do you pronounce MIDI? I have never heard anyone pronounce it by the letters and only by the full name when do so in instruction, but instead do it Military style as a word.

It's one thing to acknowledge your lack of understanding of a subject and start there as a basis for learning with humility. Everyone has to start somewhere. I don't get presuming to teach and thereby broadcasting your lack of knowledge and humility at the same time.

The more crappy free info there is out there, the more need there is for real professionals like us....
I'm reminded of this in dealing with small local radio stations and amateur videographers who expect things
will just "work out" because it's all digital....

My head hurts at times dealing with some of it...

I don't even have to "go political" for that point to be obvious

I'll see your "DAW" and raise you a "Jewy" at 2:29 in the first video.

I think the most disturbing aspect of this series is the antisemitism...

do you guys say "led" or "L.E.D."?

He also pronounces MIDI "Emm-eye-Dee-eye".

I think the whole series is brilliant trolling..

I never liked the sound of it either. From the very start.

Half of the world has no idea what the term even means, or that such a philosophy even exists.

That, minus the brilliant. From what you guys are saying, I'm certain this is a prank meant to go viral in just this way. Sort of Andy Kaufman.

A regrettable fact of YouTube and truly mass internet media is that, if the only criterion is making money through views, it's ALWAYS more profitable to troll and crap up the place.

So they do, and it will hurt your views if you're naive enough to do something well-intentioned. C'est la vie. I get tired of angry people and fake people and garbage, but that's just me.

Gosh, everyone knows that Les Paul invented reverb. ;)

I think that the guy in the video was talking about martinis, not wet or dry reverb. I get what he's talking about, though, and we often talk about something with too much reverb added as being "too wet." But in this case, "dry" isn't the opposite of "wet."

I don't write DAW until I first write it as "Digital Audio Workstation (DAW)," and if I have to pronounce it, I pronounce it as the three letters that it is. I pronounce MIDI as "middy." I pronounce LED as "ell - eee - dee" and never "led." So go figure.

Notice that, at least in the intro video, the level meter for his microphone channel is slamming against the virtual pin most of the time.
