I was wondering what those were. A hexagonal crystalline structure is also exhibited by corundum - ruby and sapphire.

Yes and bunch of others too. Corundum is beautiful, I have a small piece on matrix that has both the red and blue which means it likely contains Chromium, Iron and Titanium impurities.
