Hello everyone,

This is Chris with the Lefora Team. We understand that this upgrade has not been easy and we want to make the change as comfortable as possible. Please feel free to post any questions or issues you might have here in this thread, and I'll be happy to help out.

I've noticed a few questions about mobile access. We are currently in the final testing stages of our mobile version. If all goes well, it should be released this week. This mobile version should make access and browsing easier.

Is there a way to make it so that I don't have to scroll to see the subforums when I first get here? The entire screen on my laptop is all header stuff (PRW logo) and lots of blank space. At the very bottom of my screen is a "tags" box that was never there before a couple of days ago. I have to do a LOT more scrolling around in the new incarnation... even in the threads there is a lot of dead space.

I haven't been able to view the site on my iPhone since the changeover. Any tips? I'm a holdout on iOS5, does it work better on the newer versions?

One suggestion I can give here is forum jump, have you tried that? You can jump from one forum to the other while avoiding the directory. (Front page).
I'll ask our designer if it is possible to make the forums a bit more compact, but it may also be related to screen resolution.

Sit tight, the mobile version is coming, it's right around the corner :) I've been testing on my iPhone and it's looking much better than what we have now. Just a few more days hopefully, we're very close to release.

Edited to add... I have a iOS5 also, so I know it'll work good on that version.

Thanks Chris,

i agree that there's way too much wasted space at the top of the forums page.
Terry it would really assist in the layout if the logo was more of a landscape orientation.
Here's a wireframe suggestion.

The individual forum view has even more space at the top that could also be pushed up.
This is the current view of a forum. On a laptop that's nearly the entire screen so you have to scroll to see any threads.

There's too much padding on the left side. On a narrow window that causes long titles to get wrapped.
image

Instead of centering the content - margin: {0 auto}
move it closer to the left - margin {0 0 0 20px}
and then you could make the width a 90% instead of 80%. Or a fixed width.

It's still going to get crunched on a real small screen but why not use more room for content vs. black background?

Thanks.

I see that the mobile version is available on Android now.  It looks much better.

However, there is an issue that I am noticing.  I see the "eyeball" near topics, as expected.  But, when I try to tap on the eyeball to take me to the first new post in that thread since my last visit, it does not work.  Instead, the the entire topic seems to be "tapped" and it takes me to the first post of the first page.  The feature to go to the first unread post is really needed.

New post count needed

In the old software there was an indication, next to a thread title, of the number of new posts since the last visit.  That feature does not exist with the new software, and is really needed.

If I am looking at the forum on a quick break, it is helpful to know how many new posts there are in a thread, so that I will know if I have time to look at it.  As it stands, if I click on the "eyeball" of a topic to take me to the first unread message in a thread, and I find out that there are 50 new replies, I have now lost the ability to have the "eyeball" take me to the first unread post in the future if I don't have time to read all of these new posts.  If I can see the number of new replies in a thread before opening it, and I see that there are 50, I can wait until I have more time to open the thread.

I hope this makes sense, and I hope you see the value in having a "new post count" next to each topic.

Thanks!

Can I add a +1 to this?  Was super useful in the old version...

ok thanks for reporting that, I'll pass it on to the developers. There will be some tweaks needed for sure, so it's important that this stuff is reported. Thanks

You know, nobody has ever brought this up. You win a prize for being the first one. You sure have a valid point there. I'll add this to the feature suggestion list.

I really like this very, very much and it would be easy to do. Terry, what do you think?

I'm using an iMac G3, OS 10.4.11, My browser of choice is TenFourFoxG3.
New software worked until a week ago - ugly with the already mentioned wrap / overlap issues on my 1024 x 768 screen
Since last weekend. I am logged out every time I move to any other page except the one logged in on, rendering the forum useless. I've had to resort to using Safari 4.1.3 which does not exhibit this flaw.
Another +1 for restoring the "number of unread posts" a very useful feature.

Not sure if anyone has mentioned the Youtube Video issue yet. The "Watch on Youtube" and full screen buttons in embedded videos haven't worked since the changeover.
