Such as this Model 730, which was used all over Sgt. Pepper.

This is a hybrid…solid state pre, tube power.

I'm definitely NOT knowledgeable about the various solid state/ hybrid vox amps from the '60s, but I do think it's interesting that the AC30 is the model that got the big boost from the Beatles' use when they moved away from it basically as soon as they were able - it's the one that's stayed in production and gets venerated, while the AC50/100 and the other models just became collectors' items and curiosities.

And I think of the Edge, its just *in my experience* people associate ac30s with the Beatles. I was in the cavern club a couple of weeks ago, multiple AC30s just sitting on stage as props (admittedly there was what looked like a small head AC50 too, but I couldn't get close to it because the place was HEAVING.

This is also a hybrid: some might say a 'pizza dreams' hybrid:

Many years ago, I used to teach guitar at a store that had a 730 sitting there for *years*...could have been bought for cheap I'm sure. The distortion was very unique. I had already been thinking about it every so often, even before now knowing it is the Pepper's amp.

On a different note, I really enjoy the little Vox AC4TV combo with 10 inch speaker...very similar to what Darrick has pictured, but in combo form. The built in wattage switch is quite nice! Given the inflated prices of Princetons and Champs, this winds up being a really great substitute (different topology of course).

A good friend does some gigging at blues bars with an AC15, and it sounds *very* nice when cranked.
