A track from Darlene Love's new album, yours truly playing bass and conducting the rhythm section.

hey this is great!

i master a fair amount of tunes like this....doesn't your drummer know they're supposed to do one inappropriately busy tom fill 7/8 of the way through?

He's her drummer, not mine ;-) And he plays an inappropriate fill every so often, he just knows when not to. Like when the tape is rolling.

This is something I just found on youtube: It's a track I played bass on (gulp!) 35 years ago that has been set to footage from "The Hunger" featuring one of the most beautiful women on the planet, IMHO. I don't know who did the video, and I hadn't heard the track since it came out, but I think it's pretty cool. Just pretend you've never heard of the artist (unless you haven't) and listen to the song!

FWIW, it's the same Jazz bass I used on the DL track above, recorded in 1980 here and 2014 above. Wish all my relationships lasted that long....

Though kinda bummed the band didnt get a credit.
REALLY odd that there was no mention of the song [ What A Wonderful World ] at all.

Sympathies on the credits. I kept wondering if it was going to be obvious when the song played, and of course it was. Cool moment, fit very well.

Here is the lyric for a tune that I'm going to record in Mazatlan with my duo "The Two Hanks" for a release called "Bitchy and Cranky"

I Doubt It
Lyrics by Dave Martineau and Norman Glowach © March 16, 2014

I was out with my pal Alfie we was having a couple drinks
We had done the Elks and Legion were at the curling rink
Alfie was kinda randy so we was checkin’ out the chicks
The way they were sweepin’ the movement of their hips
When we heard a garsh awful voice from a table by the bar
It sounded like a siren on a screeching ambulance car
And then a guy said these words as he walked on past us
Man that gals got a voice I bet dogs can hear in Alaska!

And Alfie said

Twenty years ago I mighta done her but I doubt it
I da da da da da da da da doubt it
Twenty years ago I mighta done her but I doubt it
I da da da da da da da da doubt it
Yeah I doubt it.

The next day we're sittin' with Alex and her partner Moe
We was having Sunday breakfast at an old café we know
Just eatin’, drinkin’, talkin’ about our Saturday night
With Alfie reminiscin’ about “voice cuts like a knife”
When we heard a racket coming from near the ladies can
And Moe she got startled and kinda choked on her ham
I leaned in and whispered “that’s the gal from the rink!”
And Moe she cleared her throat and took another drink

And then she said

Twenty years ago I mighta done her but I doubt it
I da da da da da da da da doubt it
Twenty years ago I mighta done her but I doubt it
I da da da da da da da da doubt it
Yeah I doubt it.

OK it's cold here

This is the pre-release video for an artist for whom i've been recording since 2003. This will his 6th album.
I sign the Production with the artist and i've also recorded everything in my own studio except for Strings, recorded by Joao Ornelas at Valentim de Carvalho in Lisbon, Portugal. Piano and Double Bass were recorded at Timbuktu, also in Lisbon, by Luis Candeias. Mixing is by Nelson Carvalho and Mastering is by Andy Vandette.
